Editor review
It's really easy to get started with IDriveSync. The website is very simple. Once signed up, you can download the software. Either use the 5GB free plan or buy more space. We found installation to be very easy. Once it is done installing it is ready to use.
Syncing
Like any sync folder utility (ZipCloud, Dropbox, etc…) IDriveSync installs an 'IDriveSync Folder' on to your computer. Once Installation is complete, drag files and copy them in to the folder to automatically have them synced through the cloud
One aspect of sync folders, in general, that we do not like is that you can't add files from other folders without making a duplicate on your computer. This ends up making a copy of all files you want backed up. Companies like SugarSync and ZipCloud allow you to select and manage any file on your hard drive to be synced without creating a duplicate on your computer.
Restoring files
Any file that is deleted from the sync folder are moved into the "Trash" for 30 days before they are completely deleted. We deleted several files to see if they would remain on the website, we found them in the trash and clicked, "Put Back". This restores the deleted items to the place where they were last.
Sharing
Sharing is excellent. You can share folders with friends or give out public URLs for people to see a file. IDriveSync integrated Facebook and email so that it is easy to share files and folders with contacts. You can even form groups of people to share select files and folders with. We thought this was a great way to simplify the sharing aspect of syncing.
Mobile apps
They have a great app that is easy to use with the iPhone. It is quick and responsive. It allows you to see all of the files on your IDrive account. You can also upload photos from your library or take photos directly through the app.
Conclusion
IDriveSync is a great syncing utility. It gets all of the files you want synced to all the devices you attach to the account. It's great for sharing because of it's easy to use contacts feature. We think they have done a pretty good job making a cloud syncing product. Though we would like it if we could backup files that are not in the sync folder.
Pros and Cons

Syncs files automatically
Versatile web interface with good sharing utility
User reviews
I use it on my PC (Win 7) for documents and photos and Android phone for photos, which get uploaded immediately when I connect to Wi-Fi.
Pros and Cons
- works flawlessly on PC and Android
- with a few clicks you get additional 2GB
- with referrals you can get up to 20GB additional space
- you get 1GB referral bonus immediately
- easy and quick file restoring (other services can be very frustrating about that)
- paid plans are very cheap
- possibility of additional encryption with which the data can be accessed only by its owner
Pros and Cons
Pros and Cons
Good price for generous storage
Support model - drove me mad. All by IM, not response to emails and you can't update support tickets.
Got confused about IP address changes and would then refuse to do backups.
Can't change config whilst backup is running.
